Francis Kwame Nyamekeh
Hi!
I'm Francis Kwame Nyamekeh, born in Accra-Ghana. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D in Philosophy at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I received my BA in Philosophy and Political Science at the University of Ghana and my M.A in Philosophy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. My primary areas of interests are in philosophy of language, philosophy of law and political philosophy. My secondary areas of interests surround African political philosophy, meta-ethics and philosophy of economics.
I am currently engaged in two main research projects. First, I am enquiring into the nature of legal objectivity in legal interpretation. More precisely, I seek answers to the question: what is the (metaphysical) nature of a correct legal answer given the view that there are single corrects answers to what the law really is in every legal case? Are the truth of such answers analysable independently of any legal official's attitude, beliefs or judgements?
My second project surrounds the Kant's Cosmopolitanism and African socio-political philosophy. I am particularly working on understanding Kant's cosmopolitan rights of hospitality, and whether it succeeds in offering a formidable device for dissolving colonial mentalities prevalent in the post-colonial world of Western societies.
